Julie finally got housing a year ago, but still comes regularly to the Block to spend time with everyone she knows who is still out there. She is not happy with what her photo reveals: “I’ve lost so much weight! I want to be so big from all the eating that they have to remove a wall just to get me inside,” she jokes. Julie is mystified by the actions taken by authorities to deliberately make life worse for people living homeless – the removal of portapotties, the removal of garbage cans, the constant bylaw seizures, the closing of one of the overdose consumption sites where people could use their drugs without having to be visible to all. “They don’t want people to be seen using drugs, but they take away the places where people can do that without being seen. Why?”
