Busy day at the bottle recycling depot, especially on the side where binners come to sort their giant bags of returns. Awesome figures she has about $20 worth today – 200 containers at a dime each – and was keeping a close eye on them as she sorted after an acquaintance had his own $20 bag stolen. She used to do well going through people’s blue boxes on recycling days, but says there are so many people doing the blue-box hunt now that it isn’t worth it. Awesome has had housing for the last five years at what’s known as “wet housing” – supportive housing where people can continue to use drugs or drink.
