Valerie

Valerie travels from Quadra Island to Campbell River every day to socialize with the easy-going street community that hangs out at the park near the city centre. She usually has all of these bags hanging off of her for the entire day as she travels around. But the discovery of an abandoned shopping cart at the ferry terminal has made for a happy turn of events on this day, Valerie’s first time using a cart. She worries that people with mental health issues no longer have anywhere safe to go after the June closure of the Kwesa Place street drop-in, emergency shelter and community kitchen as part of “downtown revitalization.” Other landlords in the downtown area are refusing to rent Kwesa space.
