One of the great miseries of living unhoused are infections like cellulitis, caused by a bacteria that gets in through cracks and wounds in the skin – common when your feet are constantly damp, and worsened when people can’t shower regularly and don’t have the option of keeping wounds clean and dry. N says his legs were so swollen and ulcerated at one point that every step was agony. He grabbed this sunny moment to take his shoes and socks off to try to dry his cracked, sore feet, but winter weather will worsen skin issues for everyone out there, some of whom have lost limbs to infection. American studies have found that more than 80 per cent of the 650,000 people hospitalized for cellulitis in a given year are homeless.
