Jackson & Kajal

Jackson and his sister Kajal reached out through Instagram to ask if they could come along on a Pandora walk sometime and hand out sandwiches and bottles of water. Something about their friendly faces led to a lot of conversations with a lot of people as we made our very slow way along the 900-block. Their father is a vet of the Iranian military who was tortured in Iraq, and he’s currently living homeless with severe PTSD on the streets of Calgary after falling in and out of various housing arrangements. He fled Iran years ago to come to Canada as a refugee. “Our parents divorced when I was two, and our mom did a very good job of sheltering us from all of that,” says Kajal, a social work student. “But as we get older, we are seeing how these things happen.”
