Silent Bob

Beneath this blanket lies Silent Bob, desperately trying to warm up under this thin blanket after a very cold night on the Pandora Avenue sidewalk. When the temperatures drop to 0 C or lower, that triggers the local “extreme weather response” and another 60 mats are set out for people in Victoria. But with regular shelter bed providers typically putting up notices by noon that they’re already full for that night, those EWR mats get used up fast, with people lining up for two hours or more just to try to get one. That mat space comes to a hard end early in the morning. Beyond more shelter beds, a critical need in the City is for warm, dry indoor space (with bathrooms, and allowing pets) for people who can’t access Our Place, currently the only such daytime space and not available to anyone who has a cart. Anything wheeled now has to be left outside, where it’s at high risk of being seized by bylaw.
