Strawberry

Strawberry has many thoughts around action to end homelessness after five years on the streets and no offers of help to get housed. She’d start by taking an empty lot and dividing it into squares, each with room for a tent. Add in portapotties and wash-up stations for the site, storage for carts, mental health support for those who need it, and a rule that everyone uses their drugs inside their tents and keeps their area clean. “After you stay there maybe 30 or 60 days, proving that you can live within some rules, you get moved into housing, and the next group of people move in with their tents. With a system like that, you’re no longer pushing people all over the place. You’re getting people off of the street. You’ve got a place where all of us can keep an eye on people who are sick, who are at risk of overdosing. How is that not a viable solution?”
