Sunday night outreach with @qomqem Coastal has been a popular mainstay for the last three years for people living homeless, but funding has ended. Last night’s run will be among the last. The QomQem crew makes 100 sandwiches and snack bags for handing out on Pandora and beyond if the food doesn’t run out. It’s quite a production every week at United Commons (the former First Met church), where QomQem staff and volunteers come together for a couple hours of sandwich-making, candy bag filling, and hot chocolate prep, then head out with four wagons full of food in tow. The squirt of whipped cream on top of the hot chocolate is always a big hit, as are the nights when the crew does the fussier prep needed for cups of instant noodle soup. That’s Susan, Curtis, Chass, Denise, Christie and Rachel in the church kitchen in this photo, a multi-group mix representing QomQem, Neighbourhoods in Solidarity with Unhoused Neighbours, and Abbey Church.
