Kristel was 13 when trouble came for her and she ended up homeless. She’s 47 now and so ready for it to be over. She has had years-long stretches of being in recovery with a place to live, but it has been 6 difficult years since the last time. She and her husband, married for a decade, need housing that allows couples. “But I do have family in my life, and that matters a lot to me. My mom, brother and sister come out here every day to check in on me, and always have,” says Kristel. “Isolation is no good.”
