Farah

Farah had a big life before he ended up homeless a year ago, growing up on Salt Spring Island, living overseas. That’s what people who shun and judge those living homeless don’t understand, says Farah, whose street name is Rob. “Everybody out here has a story, a background, people who care about them. We’re not just castoffs. We need the same things everyone needs – survival, love, healthcare, all the things that humans need. And beyond that, there are people out here who are really worthwhile human beings, with lots to contribute. I wish people would look at us as members of society.” Farah broke his back in a fall 5 months ago and is still using the wheelchair that he has needed since the hospital released him to homelessness after several months in care, but he’s doing his best to start getting around without it.
