Another round of peer health and advocate training is underway at Peers Victoria, where peers in training attend two sessions a week over two months. Participants also get 40 hours of practicum experience, learning how to help their peers and themselves stay safe and manage through the stresses, grief and upsets of life on the edge. The topic for this session was grief – something that everyone close to the street scene is having to cope with all the time as the toxic drug crisis rages on. People in active drug use are welcome to participate in the training, but there’s one hard and fast rule – show up for class on time!
