Another fabulous seafood feast put on last week by @qomqem Coastal Connections at United Commons. The feasts are held a few times a year for anyone in the community, but especially for people living homeless, who don’t often get a chance to tuck into way too much food and a big pile of fresh crab. QomQem supports Indigenous people living homeless or precariously housed in Greater Victoria with services that range from harm reduction to health and housing supports helping people stay on their path to recover, or needing to figure out next steps coming out of jail. (Indigenous people make up six per cent of the population in BC, but represent 36 per cent of the prisoners incarcerated in BC jails.) Together with @peers_victoria , QomQem is also part of the SACRED program, connecting with Indigenous sex workers and people who have experienced sexualized violence.
