Clayton & friends

Clayton was headed to detox this week, and asked if I’d take a few photos with him and his friends to mark the big occasion. Getting into detox with its 6-8 week wait is a feat in itself, and Clayton is really hoping that this time through will be the one. “I am done with being out here,” he says. All these men have been through treatment multiple times, but end up released back into homelessness, or to temporary housing too close to their old haunts. Two are trying to get into New Roads with its two-year program, but say the selection process is tough and they’ve been refused so far. New science highlights that having to hit “rock bottom” first isn’t borne out by the evidence. Unfortunately, much of BC’s patchy, inadequate treatment processes are still built on that harmful myth, with people told they need to “try harder” if they want more help. Get with the evidence, BC!! Here’s Clayton in the orange with Darrell and Rob (Farah), Zephyr, and Ricky. Stay tuned for coming Street Stories on some of these guys.
