CJ builds things, though this fold-up bed on wheels was actually built for him by a friend after CJ’s own prototype solar-powered invention was dismantled by bylaw a while back. It attaches to a bike for easy relocation – essential for people who are constantly under pressure to move along or lose all their stuff to seizure. “I’m trying to get this to where I can live in it but be gone in 30 seconds if bylaw shows up. But they keep taking all my tools,” he says. Many others in the street community count on his skills – and vast collection of mechanical bits and pieces – to keep their own mobile setups rolling. CJ has been outside for seven years, but says he’d consider coming inside if he could have a place to build things.
