Getting into treatment as soon as possible is a critical need for Devon. Her little girl is in government care and about to be adopted, and Devon thinks her only chance to ever get her daughter back is to show the Ministry of Children and Family Development that she is serious about giving up substances. But despite all the talk about involuntary treatment as if people like Devon are rejecting treatment, BC only has 653 publicly funded treatment beds, and a typically long wait to get into them. Housing support post-treatment is even scarcer, with many people having no choice but to return to living homeless.
