Brody

Not only do Brody and his best pal Cedar avoid homelessness by living on their 25-foot boat, Brody can claim the title “hero” for being on that boat one day 12 years back in the Comox Valley when a young woman was struck by a hit and run driver on Comox Road along the dike. She was left for dead in a ditch for 5 hours, but Brody was tied up at a nearby dock and heard her cries. He went looking for her. It saved her life. Brody got his boat free on Marketplace and has travelled up and down the coast in the 15 years since then. “It’s definitely the affordable life, though I do spend probably $300 a month in fuel,” says Brody, who moors offshore and comes to shore on a small skiff. He has been in Victoria hanging out for about a month, but says “it’s time to get out of the city.”
